This page lists all the areas on the BSC website and supporting websites where you can access data. You can also see the various monthly reports that we produce, which are based on the large amounts of data we generate. Companies or people who are interested in accessing our data can find out what flows and files are available, how the data is calculated and how it can be accessed. Some of the information provided is classed as open and some information requires a login or payment.
Our data is available in different formats across different platforms. Please see below the types of data and how it can be accessed.
Key data reports
A range of BSC-related data reports are regularly produced that offer an insight into the electricity industry and may be of interest to those working in the market.
Trading Operations Report
These report provides information on the state of the BSC market; including issues and incidents and a summary of the key events that may have had an impact on BSC Parties. The report contains various statistics for a range of key metrics and charts to provide an understanding of any underlying trends.
System Prices Analysis Report
The SPAR reports provides a monthly update on price calculations. It is published by the Market Operations Team and presented to the Imbalance Settlement Group (ISG) at their monthly meeting.
Peer Comparison Graphs
The peer comparison graphs are published in line with BSCP533. The Peer Comparison graphs are also provided to Suppliers.
Gross Supplier Market Share Data
Quarterly summaries are published of each Supplier’s market share by volume and average Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) count.
Elexon's data websites
Insights Solution website
The Insights Solution publishes information about the electricity system in Great Britain. Data available on this website include:
- REMIT
- Generation
- Demand
- Balancing
- Transmission
The Insights Solution also performs and publishes indicative calculations of the Cash-out prices (System Buy and System Sell Prices) for each Settlement Period.
The service can be used by market participants to help make trading decisions and understanding market dynamics, and acts as a prompt reporting platform as well as a means of accessing historic data.
BSC Portal website
The Portal is a site that provides operational BSC data, including but not limited to:
- Financial and Credit Cover information
- Imbalance volumes
- Historic System Buy Price and System Sell Price information (back to 2001)
- Line Loss Factor data
- Market Domain Data
- Operational parameter data (e.g. Transmission Loss Multipliers, CALF values, P114 data)
- Settlement data
While some of this data is public, some is Party-specific and you may need to apply for access rights. You will also need to create a login.
Open Settlement Data
Several curated Settlement datasets are now available for you access that were originally included in Data Flows. The settlement data provided can be used to help you to understand the settlement process and verify BSC trading charges.
The five datasets that available are:

- Settlement Period Information
- System Period Data
- Trading Unit Period Information
This data is open to all and freely available.
Data Flows
There are currently five data flows that are available and these flows offer a variety of information, including:
- Balancing Mechanism Unit charges
- Grid Supply Point (GSP) energy consumption
- Information on trading activity
- Metered Volumes
- Profile Coefficient Data
- System Buy/Sell Prices
- Supplier Volume Allocation (SVA) market information
BSC Parties are entitled to receive a variety of data flows directly from the central BSC Systems. Non-BSC Parties can obtain this data, but at a cost.
